A noble aroma variety. 12-36” side arms. Substitutes: Spalter Select, Santiam. It was the hop of choice for a major American brewer in premium beers for many years until Spalter Select replaced it. Craft brewers are rediscovering its hidden potentials.
- Alpha Acids: 3.5-5.5%
- Aroma: an aromatic hop, mild and slightly spicy, resembles Fuggle
- Maturity: Early
- Yield: medium 1000-1400 lbs/acre, unless high density is used
- Storage: good 70% remaining
- Grower notes: an older commercial variety that grows well in our Michigan trials, reportedly varies year to year in yields. Breaks dormancy a little slower than Fuggle H, but before Willamette. Shows resistance to mildews, but does poorly in overly wet soils. Establishes more quickly than most noble types.
